BMW to showcase new i3, i8 cars in 2011 Geneva Motor Show

BMW is set to showcase its new i3, i8 cars at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show. Ian Robertson, member of BMW AG, said, "BMW i offers visionary cars and services, inspiring design, and an entirely new concept of premium mobility – all with a focus on sustainability."

While BMW i3 will be an electric car, the i8 will be a gasoline-electric hybrid car. Both will be put up for show in Geneva Motor Show on 3rd March, 2011. As per various sources, these cars will be rolled-out in 2013.

The i3 car has a rear-mounted electric motor that can produce 150-170 bhp of power. Its electric motor has rechargeable lithium-ion batteries and its range comes to 100 miles. The other car, or i8, will be powered separately.

As per the company, the i8 car: "will blend the sporty ability of a high-performance machine with fuel consumption and emissions of a small car."

This car has a mileage of 75.1 mpg. The CO2 emission is 99 g/km.

These cars will be made at BMW's newly set up factory in Leipzig, Germany. They will be making i3 electric car first and thereafter i8. For doing this, BMW has invested much money and has created about 800 jobs. Even though the company has not released any official photos or price details, a couple of renderings look terrific.
