National Games: Punjab dominates athletic events

Athletes from Punjab dominated the track, clinching five gold while Jharkhand, services, Andra Pradesh and Rajasthan had to remain satisfied with one yellow medal each in the atheletic events at the 34th National Games here.

In men's 400m hurdles last evening, Kuldev Singh and Satendra Singh from Punjab bagged gold and bronze respectively while Joseph G Abraham got the silver medal.

In Women's category of the same event, R Elavarasi got gold while Anu R (Kerala) and Soniya (Jharkhand) got silver and bronze repectively.

In men's 1500m, S Karan Singh of Services got gold while R Rautela (Uttarakhand) and Saji Joseph (Kerala) got silver and bronze respectively.

In women's category of the event, O P Jaisha of Punjab bagged gold while Sushma Devi of Haryana and Jhuma Khatoon from Jharkhand received silver and bronze respectively.

In men's discuss throw, Vikas Punia of Rajasthan got gold and Kirpal Singh of Punjab received the silver medal.

Anshu Rai of UP managed the bronze medal.

Among the women, Harwant Kaur of Punjab got gold while Rinku Sangwan of Haryana and Baljit Kaur of Punjab got silver and bronze respectively.

In men's high jump, Harishankar Roy of Jharkhand bagged gold.

Jitin C Thomas of Services got silver and Benedict Starley from Tamil Nadu got the bronze.

In men's triple jump, Arpinder Singh of Punjab got gold and Amarjeet SIngh of Jharkhand managed the silver.
