The FIFA elections are officially on. This despite a 'royal' effort from the England Football Association to seek a deferment on allegations of rampant corruption, but 172 out of the 189 members voted against any delay. England's football association had earlier launched a torrid bid to stop Sepp Blatter from being re-elected to the post of president unopposed with even Prince Williams calling for a deferment.
On Wednesday, there were a lot of allegations and counter-allegations with FA chairman David Bernstein at the helm of anti-Blatter voices. "I ask for a postponement to allow time for an additional candidate or candidates to stand and compete in an open and fair election," he said.
He though had minimal applause when he left the podium while Julio Grondona, the long-time head of the Argentina FA took him on directly. "It looks like England is always complaining so please I say will you leave the Fifa family alone," he said.
