Bio degradable Shrink Labels

Decorative Sleeves has become the first European shrink sleeve manufacturer to include a film made from renewable resources among its range of products. The company is currently running a series of trials with leading customers using PLA shrink film. PLA (polylactic acid) is a biodegradable polymer derived from corn, which provides an annually renewable and 100% compostable alternative to traditional petroleum-based products.  As it is not oil-based, it also offers greater price stability.  A number of high profile containers are already being produced in PLA, thereby offering the brand owner a mono polymer packaging solution. The PLA Shrink Film has a further environmental benefit in shrink applications as shrinkage can be achieved at lower temperatures, thus requiring less energy consumption.  Lower shrinkage temperatures can also help to reduce the size of tunnels and increase throughput. The film has been specially formulated for the needs of shrink sleeves.  In particular, it is preferentially oriented to provide high shrinkage in the transverse direction, ideal for the decoration of a wide variety of bottle and container shapes.  It is also suitable for unprinted sleeves and tamper evident applications.
