A 25-year-old widow was abducted and allegedly raped by a man posing as a cop in Chaderghat on Thursday.
The victim is a daily wage worker from Mahbubnagar. The incident happened when she was returning home in a truck with her 18-year-old brother after attending Yedupayla Jatara in Medak district.
At about 3.30 am, the truck reached the city and the driver stopped the vehicle at the exit gate of MGBS towards the High Court. Before the victim could get down from the vehicle, four people came to the truck driver and claimed they were cops. They asked the woman to come along with them to the `police station.' "When the driver and her brother tried to intervene, the assailants hit them. They forcibly made the woman and her brother sit in an auto and sped away," Chaderghat inspector D Anand Kumar said.
The men stopped the auto at Aparna Nagar near Chaderghat railway bridge and forced the boy to get down. They took the woman to an isolated place near the bridge where one of the gang members raped her.
Before others could assault the woman, her brother reached the spot with some locals and the gang members fled from the spot abandoning the auto.
The victim approached the Chaderghat police and lodged a complaint. Police seized the auto and sent her to the Nayapul Maternity Hospital for medical examination. Based on the auto registration number, police are trying to nab the accused. Till late on Thursday night, police picked up five persons who were operating the auto in the past few years and they are being interrogated.
A case was booked under Section 376 (rape) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
