Toyota Kirloskar Motor on Monday reported 61 per cent increase in sales during April, 2011 at 9,681 units as against 6,001 units in the same period of last year.
Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM), a joint venture between the Japan's Toyota Motor Corp and the Kirloskar Group, attributed the growth to healthy sales of its latest sedan Etios.
"The growth last month can be attributed to the encouraging sales of Etios. We have so far sold 12,758 units since its launch in December last year," TKM Deputy Managing Director (Marketing) Mr Sandeep Singh said in a statement. The company sold 4,657 units of the Etios in April, 2011.
The other products showed a drop in sales, fallout from the production adjustment observed from April 25 to June 4, 2011 in light of the supply difficulties, following the March 11, earthquake and tsunami in Japan, TKM said.
"We have incurred a loss of approximately 2,900 units in April due to the production adjustment. However, the actual impact of the temporary production adjustment will be felt in the month of May, as we will operate at 30 per cent of our normal capacity," Mr Singh added.
Volkswagen sells 7,000 cars in April
Volkswagen India on Monday said it has sold 7,000 cars in April 2011, including 6,621 units of Polo and Vento.
The all-new Passat that went on sale from April 8 this year, met tremendous response from customers with more than 190 units have already been sold in less than a month, the highest number clocked in by the model till date, the company said in a statement.
"We are extremely happy with the initial response to our recently launched Passat with BlueMotion Technologies and are looking forward for continued success," Volkswagen Group Sales India Board Director (Passenger Cars) Mr Neeraj Garg said.
"The Polo and Vento sales have been consistently good, a lot of which we owe to the increasing brand awareness, especially with our association with the ongoing Indian Premiere League," he added.
Hero Honda sales rise 39% in April
Hero Honda on Monday reported it's highest ever sales for a month in April at 5,17,099 units, registering a jump of 39.12 per cent.
The company had sold 371,652 units during the same month of last year, Hero Honda Motors Ltd (HHML) said in a statement.
Its previous highest ever monthly sales were achieved in March this year when it clocked 5,15,852 units.
This is the second consecutive month that the company's monthly sales have crossed the five lakh mark.
"It is extremely heartening to begin the new fiscal year with our best ever monthly sales. This has been possible due to our all round growth across territories and across segments," HHML Senior Vice-President Mr Anil Dua said.
HHML also said its scooter Pleasure continues to gain ground and crossed the 35,000 unit—threshold in April.
"With volumes of well over 35,000 units this month, our scooter Pleasure is also playing an important role in contributing to this growth. Our business continues to move ahead and volumes continue to grow on strong fundamentals," he added.
Suzuki Motorcycle sales up 41% in April
Two-wheeler maker Suzuki Motorcycle India Pvt Ltd (SMIPL) today reported 41% growth in sales in April, 2011 to 29,369 units from 20,758 units in the same month last year.
Commenting on the April sales performance, SMIPL Vice-President, Sales and Marketing, Atul Gupta said: "We have received very good response from the market to all our products.
The growing customer satisfaction among present owners of Suzuki products has led to a positive word-of-mouth in the market".
Maruti Suzuki sales up 4% in April
The country's largest car-maker Maruti Suzuki India today reported a 4.40% jump in April sales to 97,155 units.
Sales for the same month last year stood at 93,058 units, Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) said in a statement.
The national capital-based company recorded sales of 87,144 units in the domestic market last month, an 8.88% increase from 80,034 units in April, 2010.
MSI's exports, however, declined by 23.13% in April to 10,011 units from 13,024 units in the year-ago period, the company added.
Sales of the company's once bread-and-butter model M800, went up 11.96% to 2,528 units during the reporting period from 2,258 units in April, 2010, the statement said.
Sales in the A2 segment (comprising Alto, WagonR, Estilo, Swift, A-Star and Ritz) witnessed 1.82% growth to 57,443 units from 56,416 units in the same month a year ago.
A3 segment sales (comprising the SX4 and DZiRE models) increased by 39.07% to 13,899 units from 9,994 units in the corresponding period a year ago, the company said.
MSI's total passenger car sales rose 7.63% to 73,905 units in April from 68,668 units in the same month in 2010, it added.
VE Commercial Vehicles sales up 20% in April
Auto-maker VE Commercial Vehicles today said that it recorded a 20.49% jump in total monthly sales to 3,669 units in April.
The joint venture between Volvo Group and Eicher Motors had sold 3,045 units in the same month of the previous year, VE Commercial Vehicles (VECV) said in a statement.
Domestic sales in April last year increased to 3,353 units from 2,903 units in the same month a year ago, a jump of 15.50%, the company added.
Exports for the month also soared over two-fold to 316 units from 142 units in April, 2010.
Sales of light commercial vehicles in the Indian market went up by 9.69% to 2,242 units during the month from 2,044 units in April 2010.
Heavy commercial vehicle sales recorded a 54.05% jump to 513 units last month from 333 units in the year-ago period last year, it added.
Bajaj Auto motorcycle sales up 17% in April
The country's second largest two-wheeler maker Bajaj Auto today reported a 16.71% jump in its motorcycle sales for April to 3,22,235 units.
The company sold 2,76,095 units in the corresponding month last year, Bajaj Auto Ltd (BAL) said in a statement.
BAL recorded its highest ever exports last month at 1,58,422 units, compared to 1,13,911 units in April, 2010, a growth of 39.08%.
The company also witnessed its best-ever sales figures for three-wheelers last month, at 45,074 units, as against 37,350 units in the same month last year, translating into a jump of 20.68%.
Total vehicle sales of the company stood at 3,67,309 units last month compared to 3,13,472 units in the same period a year ago, a growth of 17.17%, the statement said.
Honda Siel Cars on the reverse gear on sales in Apr-11
Car maker Honda Siel Cars India today reported a 43.76% decline in sales at 2,012 units in April, over the same month an year ago.
The company had sold 3,578 units in the corresponding month last year, Honda Siel Cars India (HSCI) said in a statement.
The April sales comprised 1,542 units of its flagship sedan City, 112 units of hatchback Jazz, 253 units of premium sedan Civic, 83 units of luxury sedan Accord and 22 units of its sports utility vehicle CR-V, it added.
HSCI said due to the earthquake and tsunami that hit Japan in March, the company has cut production at its Greater Noida plant to 50% from this month.
"However, production adjustments for a smooth transition began from mid-April. Further, to ensure continuity of supplies to our customers in the forthcoming months, we have moderated our wholesale despatches," HSCI Senior Vice-President (Sales & Marketing) Jnaneswar Sen said.
He said the company is hopeful that supplies would normalise post July and "we would be able to catch up on the lost volumes".
