Rajesh Kumar Chaudhry, 34, who was employed as driver at the house of Om Prakash for the last ten years, his brother-in-law Mahesh Chaudhry, 21, and a juvenile were arrested on Thursday from Darbhanga in Bihar, police said.
"All of them were in need of money, particularly Rajesh, who was constructing his house in Faridabad and had asked for Rs.50,000 as loan from the family, but they had declined," said a police officer.
The three decided to loot the house when Prakash was alone and kill him if the need arose, said police.
"With the help of the juvenile servant, they entered the home and strangled Prakash on May 2, before getting away with around Rs.3 lakh in cash, two laptops, and jewellery," the officer added.
The victim was a retired government employee and a resident of East Patel Nagar in west Delhi.
According to police, the victim was talking on phone to his daughter, who lived in nearby Rajendra Nagar, when the three struck. The call was disrupted midway, and as Prakash was not attending the phone again, his daughter rushed to the spot, where she found him lying unconscious.
"She took the victim to a nearby hospital, where he was declared brought dead," the police officer added.
