CHANDIGARH/MANALI : The controversial MMS clip allegedly figuring 40 girls of a private engineering college in Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh has left the hill state shocked. One person has been arrested, who is also a student of the same college. The MMS scandal came to light a few days ago when some girls from the engineering college complained to the Mandi cops that two girls with the help of their boyfriends had allegedly filmed them while taking bath and made an MMS clip. The police has arrested one of the accused, Abhishek Dhiman.
Mandi SP, P D Prasad said that cops had recovered some digital nude photographs from the e-mail account of accused Abhishek Dhiman who is in police remand till December 27. He said statements were being recorded to ascertain the involvement of two girls named in the complaint.
"We have already submitted the detailed report to the state women commission as demanded. Further investigations are on to find whether the MMS actually exists," he said.
Taking cognizance of the matter, the State Women Commission has issued notices to the state Technical Education Director and the Mandi SP seeking status report of the case.
State women commission chairperson Ambika Sood told TOI that such incidents need to be dealt strictly to deter others from committing such crimes. "The commission has sought a detailed report from the state technical education director and the Mandi SP asking them what steps they have taken so far," she said.
Gohar DSP, Narender Sharma said, "We have interrogated many girls but did not find any clue about the video clip. Statements are being collected from both the girls who were reportedly guilty of capturing the video of other girls while bathing in the hostel," Sharma said.
He said that the police had seized the laptop and the pen drive of the accused and were sending them to the forensic science laboratory for forensic examination.
