Foot ball: Man City eye £50m bid for Alves

Manchester City are set to make a sensational £50 million bid for Barcelona right-back Dani Alves.

With the Eastlands club itching to splash their cash during the January transfer window, Roberto Mancini has already submitted his shopping list to the owners for action.

And action he will get as The Sun newspaper reports that City's director of football Mike Briggs flew in to Barcelona earlier this week to strike a negotiation with the Brazilian's representatives.

It was not just his mere presence at Catalonia that shocked them, but the massive offer Briggs has slapped on the table.

City are reportedly willing to pay £11.44m-a-year to the 27-year-old in a bid to prise him to Eastlands and add to the arrays of stars at their disposal.

Not helping Barcelona's cause in their retention of Alves is their failure to strike a new deal with him.

The Brazilian international's contract is set to expire in 18 months time and the Catalan club would better seal his future at the Camp Nou before City strip them of their asset for nothing in June 2011.
