Sena workers held as Pune bandh turns violent

New Delhi: The bandh call by Shiv Sena on Tuesday turned violent as Sena workers went on a rampage to protest the removal of a statue of Shivaji's guru Dadoji Konddev.
Shiv Sena activists pelted stones at buses in Pune and stopped two trains near Lonavala. Sinhagadh Express and Indore Express were stopped at Lonavala by Sena activists.
Lonavala Police detained 15 Sena activists including Shiv Sena district president for stopping the trains.

Train service resume after police intervention. There have been no reports of any casualties.

Four companies of State Reserve Police Force in addition to 6,000 Pune police personnel have been deployed in view of the bandh.

The bandh has been called to protest against the demolition of the statue of Shivaji's guru Dadoji Konddeo.

Uddhav Thackeray on Monday slammed the ruling Congres-NCP combine - which controls the Pune municipal authority - for removing the statue.

Shiv Sainiks had clashed with the police after the statue was removed from near the city's historic Lal Mahal.
