Engineering colleges to have 2 lakh more seats

New Delhi: Union Human Resource Development Minister Kapil Sibal has given a New Year gift to aspiring engineers and management students. Sibal on Thursday announced over-reaching reforms in educational sector, saying 2 lakh seats will be increased in engineering colleges, 80,000 seats in management courses and 2,200 seats in architecture courses.
The minister announced that lesser space will now be needed to set up technical institutes. While an engineering college in rural India will need 10 acres of land, in urban India it will require just 2.5 acres of land.
The move will help students in 241 districts of the country that do not have All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE)-accredited institutes.
