PM reshuffles cabinet, added 3 new Ministers

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh-led UPA government on Wednesday went for a cabinet reshuffle and added three new ministers. Though the reshuffle is seen as a minor one, the move came surprising.

Ministers holding departments like economic and infrastructure were reshuffled. The move by Manmohan Singh comes after continuing corruption charges against the UPA-led government.

Praful Patel, Shriprakash Jaiswal and Salman Khursheed were sworn-in as Cabinet ministers. And the other Congress leaders including Beni Prasad Verma of Uttar Pradesh, Ashwani Kumar of Punjab and K C Venugopal of Kerala became the new Council of Ministers for minister of state.

The ministers' swearing-in ceremony took place at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Wednesday. "This is a minor reshuffle. We will do a major reshuffle after the budget session," Singh said after the ceremony. The swear-in ceremony was attended by Sonia Gandhi and other Cabinet ministers. Political observers expect further major changes in the cabinet.
