Bata employees allege unfair labour practices

The All-India Bata Shop Employees' Union today alleged that the company management was resorting to unfair labour practices.

"The Bata management since 2007 has resorted to unfair labour practices by appointing contract workers instead of permanent employees," union president Rabin Majumdar alleged here today.

He alleged that the state labour department remained inactive and was doing nothing to check the same.
Majumdar claimed that all Bata stores remained open for 365 days and effected inter-state transfers flouting rules and regulations.

The union leader said the workers would intensify their agitation and hold meetings with central trade unions for support.

"We have also decided to submit a memorandum to the Governor. We will make a representation to the concerned departments at the Centre," he said.

Bata senior official A B Anand could not be reached for comment.
