Nail Fashion

Women generally tend to their faces a lot more than their hands. And yet, everybody knows that perfect grooming is not just about face-care and make-up but it incorporates a head-to-toe regimen that includes cleansing, toning and moisturizing before application of anything else. Therefore, whether you are partial to nail-polish or not, your hands will showcase the kind of attitude you possess towards personal care and make or break an impression depending on what state they are in.

So just go ahead and take out some time for your hands, even if you do not really want to attempt the latest manicure trends this season. Incidentally, the most popular style at the moment is the half-moon manicure, often called a 'reverse French mani' being already seen in Fall 2009 fashion shows of Christian Dior, Thakoon and Ruffian. As far as nail colour is concerned, both HD and Matte have caught the fancy this season and look equally hot when applied properly. Other fashionable shades include Navy Blue, Turquiose, Black, White, Gold, Bronze and Dark Purple. However, the trendiest nail colour seems to be, well…green in its many shades - Jade, pine, mint or olive. And yes, nail art, though rigorous and popular yet, is on the verge of being 'oh so yesterday' very soon. It is anything but natural. But then, 'natural' is not necessarily the look you should always stick to.

It goes without saying that irrespective of the type – pastel, neon and jewel, green nail polish is pretty dramatic for everyday use. If you really want to sport it, make sure your nails are short and well clipped to tone down the effect and add a little bit of subtlety to something that may otherwise be considered outright crazy. Even celebrities have been somewhat skeptical when using this colour, exceptions being AnnaLynne McCord and Rihanna. Opaque, delicate nude shades (beige in particular) and fiery reds of course have been all-time favourites. So, if we're looking for a more professional look, these may be worthy of consideration.

With all this, the first step towards getting fabulous looking nails remains cleaning and treating them properly before applying nail polish. Filing is important to check peeling and breaking of nails and special nail treatments both for nails and cuticles are also a must for a pampering manicure. A base coat ensures extra smoothness on the nails and a topcoat is like a protective covering that lets the polish intact for longer.
