New York: The Transport Security Administration (TSA) has implemented the controversial full-body scanners at many US airports as part of strengthening up security of air travel. While several passengers said they had no difficulties in passing through new security systems, others are up in arms. Thirty one-year-old John Tyner has become the unofficial hero of the backlash against body scans in American airports as he threatened a TSA official with this rallying cry, "Don't touch my junk," already an anthem on YouTube.
There are nearly 400 body scanners at 68 of America's airports.
The internet rumour mill is abuzz. From ''Full body scanners will give you cancer'' to classics like watch out or your naked pictures will end up on Facebook.
Twitter is flooded too. ''Airport security pat-downs can take up to 4 minutes? It should come with drinks and dinner,'' says one. Others have suggestions for the frequent flier, ''Fly naked, and no luggage should be allowed.''
Special kinds of underwear - with a strategically placed fig leaf patch of radiation-resistant powdered metal - promise to get you through the airport screeners with your dignity intact.
New nicknames like 'They see all' or even 'targeted sexual assault' are being attributed to the TSA and an unpleasant name for a pat down at the security cordon - 'Gate Rape' is already a new entry in the Urban Dictionary.
