Styling tips for short hair

The short hairstyle has emerged and evolved with just about everything in life but it finally 'arrived' with many other trendsetting ideas in 20th century America. The conservative Victorian era finally ended with openness and a breath of fresh air –especially in the region of the neck. A short haircut is no longer a trademark for tomboyish- ness or even of intense rebel feminism. If it were so, the trend would have passed. The truth is – short hair is here to stay.

It is amazing how a professional hairstylist can do wonders with just a pair of scissors. A snip here and a snip there and an entire look gets transformed. This is more true in case of short hairstyles as in this case even a single bang can make a world of difference. It is important to seek professional styling tips to apply the necessary variations in your short crop to suit your face and features.

One of the all time favourites in short hairstyles is the classic bob that has evolved in a number of fascinating variations. It is ideal for straight and soft hair as this best showcases the flow and the fall but the bob also suits curly or thick textured hair in an interesting deviation. You simply need a brush and a hairdryer to style your cut or may attempt a change by combing your hair back to keep the forehead free. The blunt bob may add a little volume to fine hair and is not very suitable for naturally wavy or curly hair. If your face is oval or square go for the short bob but keep it a little long if you have a round face. Whatever the style is, remember that a lot of impact may be achieved by varying the angle of the fringes or by flipping the ends in or out. If your face is a tad too oval the tip for you would be to mix short and long fringes and keep it uneven all around.

An advantage of very short hair is that you can change the look just by altering the way you comb it. Bangs are easy to maintain and can be turned either way in the side swept style. What is needed to style the hair in this case is some mousse, a brush and a dryer and may be a hairspray to capture the look. If you want to highlight your eyes you can go for very short bangs or keep a brow-skimming length. But if you do not want to be too bold, do not try the blunt bang style. Also, if you are not very proud of your neck and do not have one like Audrey Hepburn or Julia Roberts, the celebrity short style is unfortunately, but strictly, not for you.

Two styles for very short hair that plays with the deliberately messed up look are the short shag and the pixie cut. The shag uses a layered texture and starts with longish bangs across the forehead dishevelled layers all around. You can style it by just brushing it or use a gel to stiffen the strands. The pixie cut has close cropped and very short hair behind the ears and at the neck and has seen favour since the middle of the last century. It is audacious and you should steer clear of this style if you do not have a fine bone structure.

When you are going for that short crop after all, carry all the fashion magazines and your research and get your stylist to explain why you should or should not get a particular style. Your haircut should leave you in no doubt that you are looking best in it. May be next time your short hairstyle should be used as the model for many other cuts.
