Gayle yet to respond to West Indies Cricket Board

Explosive West Indies opener Chris Gayle, who hasn't been included for the only Twenty20 International and first two ODIs against India, is yet to respond to the call from West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) top brass to sort out the differences in order to be eligible for selection in the national team.

The Jamaican media is also unaware as to when Gayle would decide to sit across the table with the WICB officials and bury the hatchet.

The WICB officials are peeved about a radio interview in which Gayle alleged that the board authorities didn't bother to check the status of his fitness before annoucing the squad for Pakistan series.

That has irked the WICB officials to such an extent that they have kept the records of the e-mails sent to the big-bodied Jamaican enquiring about his fitness as well as the record of the numerous phone calls that went unanswered.

"They want to confront him with solid evidence and seek an unconditional public apology before he could again play for West Indies," said the source.

This move has apparently put Gayle on backfoot and forced him to keep his counsel. In most likelihood, he would arrive in Jamaica on Wednesday and then speak to Dinanath Ramnaraine, president of the West Indies Players' Association (WIPA), before deciding on his next course of action.

There is widespread anger in the Caribbean against the non-inclusion of Gayle who many regard as the best Twenty20 batsman in the world today and who emerged as the highest scorer in the recently concluded IPL with 608 runs at an average of over 183.

The WICB is well aware about the star power of the Jamaican and would definitely want that the differences are sorted out at the earliest. Even the broadcasters would want to see Gayle in action.

With none of the top Indian stars touring, Gayle's absence may just hit the TRPs.

The series starts at Port of Spain in Trinidad where the only T20 match will be played on June 4, followed by first and second ODIs on June 6 and 8 respectively.

Antigua hosts the third and fourth one-day international on June 11 and 13.

Jamaica hosts the last ODI against India on June 16, followed by the first Test starting from June 20.
