Pune couple booked for allegedly mortgaging one flat to 3 banks

The Pune police have booked a couple for allegedly mortgaging the same flat to three different banks and duped them to the tune of Rs 18 lakh. Police investigations have revealed that the suspects had prepared forged documents to obtain the loan from the banks.

The suspects have been identified as George Joseph Benjamin alias Prashant Kulkarni and his wife Celina Benjamin alias Kavita Kulkarni. Two separate complaints have been registered against the couple at Airport and Deccan Gymkhana police stations.

Investigations have revealed the couple have duped the Vimannangar branch of the Bank of India, Karve road branch of Janata Sahakari Bank and Swargate branch of Life Insurance Corporation (LIC).

According to the police the suspect George Benjamin approached the Vimannangar branch of the Bank of India by impersonating as Prashant Kulkarni. He submitted bogus pan card, shop act licence and income tax returns and obtained house loan of Rs 18 lakh from the Bank. The suspect only paid first instalment of the loan and then went missing.

The police said that during this period the suspects also approached a private financial firm on Ghole road and obtained loan by submitting fake documents.

The police investigations have revealed that the suspects then mortgaged the same flat with the Janata Sahakari Bank and LIC and obtained loan from them. Sub-inspector G R More of the Deccan Gymkhana police station is investigating the case.
