Despite poor fielding Pakistan manages to win over Sri Lanka defending 277

Pakistan skipper Shahid Afridi took 4/34 to lead his team to victory against Sri Lanka in their World Cup Group A clash against Sri Lanka at Colombo on Saturday.

Earlier, Afridi got his 4th wicket of the innings when he dismissed Angelo Mathews.

Afridi got the wicket of his opposite number Kumar Sangakkara as Sri Lanka lost their 5th wicket.

Sangakkara and Chamara Silva brought up their 50 run partnership.

Sri Lanka were four down in their chase of 278 for victory against Pakistan as Afridi sent back Thilan Samaraweera.

The Lankans lost their third wicket when Mahela Jayawardene was castled by Shoaib Akhtar.

Sri Lanka lost their second wicket when Tillakratne Dilshan was bowled by Afridi.

Upul Tharanga was caught by Afridi off the bowling of Mohammad Hafeez after a solid opening stand with Tillakratne Dilshan.

Misbah-ul-Haq and Younis Khan scored contrasting half centuries as Pakistan reached 277-7 in their 50 overs.

Misbah overcame cramps in his legs to remain unbeaten on 83 off 91 deliveries while Khan scored a solid 72 off 76 balls.

Sri Lanka hit back briefly in the batting powerplay with top offspinner Muttiah Muralitharan conceding just five runs in two overs that allowed Pakistan to score just 36 runs in five overs.

Pakistan built its strong total around Khan and Misbah's workmanlike 108-run fourth wicket stand off 123 balls. Both experienced batsmen frequently found the gaps and rotated the strike with singles and twos.

Leftarm spinner Rangana Herath was the top wicket-taker with 2-46.
