Match Fixing: Pak trio appeals against ban

Tainted Pakistani cricketers Salman Butt, Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Aamer have appealed against the bans, imposed on them by the ICC on spot-fixing charges, in the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Switzerland.

The three players filed their appeals on Saturday, their lawyers said.

Sources close to Asif, who is presently in London, said that his English lawyer filed the appeal along with Butt. Aamer, on the other hand, filed his appeal on Friday itself.

"Asif also filed the appeal through his lawyer on Saturday and is in London preparing for the court appearance on March 17," one source said.

Butt, Aamer and Asif were all given minimum five-year bans by the ICC's anti-corruption tribunal for indulging in spot-fixing on Pakistan's tour to England last year when Butt was the Test captain.

The trio was given a deadline of 21 days by the tribunal to file appeals against their bans.

The trio also has to appear in a magisterial court in London next month to face charges of accepting bribes and trying to defraud bookmakers after an investigation by the Scotland Yard.
