Former Justice relatives have black money says IT dept

Causing further embarrassment to KG Balakrishnan, the former Chief Justice of India (CJI), there are reports that the Income Tax department has established that three close relatives of his, have black money in their possession.

"As far as Justice Balakrishnan is concerned, I cannot say anything. But as far as his relatives, two sons-in-law and brother are concerned, we have found there is black money", said E T Lukose, Director General of Income Tax (Investigation), Kochi.

Though there is no direct mention of Justice Balakrishnan so far, his two sons and a brother have been implicated.

"Justice Balakrishnan's sons-in-law PV Sreenijan and MJ Benny, both advocates, and brother KG Bhaskaran, former Special government Pleader, have been found to be possessing black money," said Mr Lukose.

It is unclear if the former CJI will be questioned soon.

The Income Tax department has been probing allegations that Justice Balakrishnan's relatives had amassed wealth disproportionate to their known sources of income.
