The encounter started early morning after a police team along with CRPF personnel laid a siege to the village where 30 to 35 rebels were reported to have gathered for a meeting. As the forces starting a combing operation, the Maoists opened fire at them.

An encounter ensued in the forests near the tri-junction of Bounsi, Katoria (in Banka district) and Deoghar (Jharkhand) which lasted for several hours.
