ICC Cricket World cup 2011: Police arrests four persons for cricket betting on India-England match

Continuing its crackdown on illegal betting on cricket, the Central Crime Branch of the city police arrested four people after a raid on the wide spread betting racket in the city during the India-England match held here yesterday.

Police Commissioner Shankar Bidari said today raids were conducted against the bookies, who were running the betting ring in an appartment on Hennur Main Road yesterday and arrested them.

On interrogation they revealed that they were in these activities for the past five to six years. They had established well-knit network over a period of time.

Police also seized cash of Rs 7.15 lakhs, one Skoda vehicle, a laptop, a tv, one desktop, five mobile phones and sheets of paper containing details of the betting.

The arrested were identified as K S Maniyan, N Vikas and Abhi and Ravi. Ten more people who indulged in betting were absconding, the official said.

They were indulging in betting on the result of the match as well as the outcome of each session.
